OBJECTIVES
- Promoting community welfare in general
- Creating greater demand for Maternal, Child Health and Family Welfare Services.
- Creating awareness among the community about the facilities available under any project.
Methods Of Communication :
In Corporation of Chennai the Family Welfare activities are promoted by the following three methods of communication.
- Individual Method
- Group Method
- Mass Method
INDIVIDUAL METHOD : Inter personal communication or face to face communication comes under this individual method of communication. This is the most important
and successful motivational approach. Female Multi Purpose Health Workers are doing this job every day during field visit as per the fixed Tour Programme.
The Monthly target for each MPHWs under this method is 400 couples. Under various programmes delivered up to November 2004, 9,60,800 couples were contacted through this method.
GROUP METHOD : This method of motivation programme are being organised at the Health post premises on Tuesday , Thursday and Saturday forenoon
for Antenatal Mothers by the Health Visitors and Maternity Assistants. For Post-natal mothers this meeting is being conducted on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. In the field each
MPHW has to conduct atleast 5 group meetings per month. From April to November 2004, 22,520 such group meetings have been conducted.
MASS METHODS : Film shows, Video-shows and Drama programmes are being organised in the slums of Chennai City as mass methods of motivational
programmes. Informative and entertaining films and video- spots are screened on maternal child health and family Welfare subjects. During the month of December 2004, it is being
proposed to conduct 9 drama programmes in Chennai City Slums. The Maternal, Child health, Family Welfare and 24 hours emergency obsteric service facilities available in Chennai
Corporation will be highlighted to the public through this drama programmes.
Media Of Communication :
DISPLAY MEDIA : Exhibitions, Hoardings and wall paintings are some of the good visual media to convey the health messages. During Dashara festival Days, National
Pulse Polio Immuinisation Days and other occasions like Breast Feeding Day, World Population Day and World Women's day a kind of special doll exhibitions are being arranged in
all the Health Posts which will attract good audience from the slum.
PRINT MEDIA : Posters, Folders, Booklets, Hand Bills, Cloth Banners and Stickers are the useful print media to convey the specific messages. During National Immunization
days and special Family Welfare Sterilization Camp periods- special Posters, Cloth banners and Hand bills are prepared and displayed throughout Chennai City. Booklets for the
adolescent girls are also prepared and distributed to them in the Corporation schools.
CONTACT MEDIA : Family Welfare orientation Training Camp for Local Leaders, Healthy Baby Shows, Women Seminar, Population Education
Days Seminar and observation of various international days such as World Population Day, Breast Feeding Day, International Women's Day and AIDS Awareness Day are some of the
contact media programmes organized by District Family Welfare Bureau every year. During the year 2004-2005 the following contact programmes were conducted in a grand manner.
Every Year International Women’s Day is observed at Ripon Building premises. Nearly 500 female employees of Chennai Corporation participated in the function which was
presided over by the Joint Commissioner of works, Corporation of Chennai. |
